Mary Sue and fanart

It is in the very nature of the Mary Sue (and the occasional Gary Stu) to be welcomed as a hero in whichever setting she is put into, solving insoluble problems and fighting ferocious foes which the standard lot of heroes is (all to often suddenly) incapable of dealing with, seeing the searing emotions of her admiring teammates more clearly than themselves and bringing about a happy ending in even the most desperate of situations through her wise and dedicated leadership. But what if a Mary Sue was tossed into a situation with real characters instead of some stereotypical puppets whose only reason to exist is to strengthen Mary Sues ego?
